Haiku

Through the skilled use of literary devices such as juxtaposition, haiku can convey more in 17 syllables or less than an entire paragraph of prose. The writer can encapsulate a moment's entire scene, allowing the reader to unpack it with vast interpretation - all within the confines of the author’s intent.

Similarly, through skilled use of composition and semantic focus, declarative functional programming can achieve more in a few lines than an entire file of imperative logic. Some might argue that we should always write prose because it’s more accessible, but do we want to live in a society that cannot understand poetry? Writing imperatively because it’s perceived to be more accessible can hold back a developer’s aptitude, much like a lack of appreciation for poetry can limit one’s engagement with a cultured society.
